Syllogistic Software Inc.

AI consultant and Fractional CTO in Vancouver, BC

Based near the Metro Vancouver area. On-site across the Lower Mainland, remote across Canada and the US.

Syllogistic Software is me, Jason Hanley. I've been building software since 2003 and building with the OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google APIs since the day each one launched. I work near Metro Vancouver, and for local clients that means I can sit in the room.

Most of my work is remote and always has been. But an AI Audit goes better when I can watch how the work actually happens, and a Fractional CTO engagement goes better when the team has met me. For businesses in Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, Surrey, and the rest of the Lower Mainland, that is a drive, not a flight.

What's different about doing this in BC

Privacy law is provincial

Private-sector businesses in BC fall under the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), not just the federal PIPEDA. If your AI project touches customer or employee data, where that data goes and which model provider sees it is a design decision, not an afterthought. Every AI policy I write for a BC client starts there.

Data can stay in Canada

The major AI providers now offer Canadian hosting regions, and there are strong models that can run entirely on your own hardware. Which option fits depends on the data and the budget. I've built with all three, so the recommendation comes with a cost attached.

Funding is mostly federal

BC's own programs fund technology vendors, not businesses adopting AI. A BC business looking for help pays for it with BDC LIFT or an NRC IRAP contribution, both of which favour Canadian builders. I keep a plain-language overview of what's available.

The local economy isn't a tech startup

Vancouver has a startup scene, but most businesses here are in construction, real estate, hospitality, resources, film, health, and professional services. The AI wins in those businesses are in documents, scheduling, and the inbox, and they are the projects I like best because the payback is measurable.

What I do

Advise

A one-hour AI Exploration Call, or a fixed-price AI Audit that maps which of your processes are worth automating and which aren't. On-site interviews are available in the Lower Mainland.

Build

Custom AI software, from an internal tool that saves your team an hour a day to a full product. I write the code myself. The portfolio shows what finished projects look like.

Run

As a Fractional CTO, I own the technical roadmap, architecture, hiring, and vendor decisions for a few hours a week. Retainers start at $4,000 per month, with regular in-person time for Vancouver-area teams.

Rescue

A Software Project Audit for the project that is late, over budget, or stalled, with a written plan for getting it moving again.

About me

I have a Bachelor of Mathematics in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, a business degree, and a Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification. I founded Syllogistic Software in 2003 and have spent my career building software and running software projects.

Since 2022, most of that time has gone into AI software with real users and real API bills, which is why the advice comes with numbers.
