AI for your business, from someone who builds it

Find out what's worth automating before you spend a dollar on it

Does any of this sound familiar?

“Every vendor says their AI will save us money. Which ones are right?”

“We tried ChatGPT. It was neat. Then nothing changed.”

“Our competitors say they're using AI. Are we falling behind?”

You probably don't need an "AI strategy."

You need a short list of the three or four processes where AI will actually pay for itself, an honest "no" on everything else, and someone who can tell the difference because they've built both kinds.

Where AI pays off

The wins are rarely where the headlines point. They're in the boring, repetitive work that eats your team's day. Every example below is something I've already put into working software.

Reading photos and documents

Count stock from a photo of the shelf. Read a delivery slip, an invoice, or a handwritten form. Check a product on the line for defects. FoodCoach and BuyCAN identify products and portions from a phone photo. The same technique works on your inventory.

Writing the first draft

Sales reports pulled from three systems. Product descriptions. Meeting notes with the follow-ups already listed. Marketing content in your own voice. GEM and EduGen produce full drafts that a human then edits, which is the part that saves the time.

Answering the phone and the inbox

An AI voice agent that answers common questions, takes reservations, and books appointments. Reminders by text, email, or phone that cut no-shows. Incoming requests sorted and answered before anyone on your team reads them.

Predicting what's next

Busy hours, so you schedule the right staff. Demand, so you order the right stock. Which customers are about to leave, so you call them first. Restaurants, retailers, and manufacturers all have this data already. Most of them aren't using it.

The AI Audit

The audit is a fixed-price look at how your business actually runs, followed by a written plan of where AI fits, where it doesn't, and what each piece would cost to put in place.

I interview the people doing the work, not just the people managing it, because that's where the repetitive tasks hide. Then you get a report you can act on with or without me.

This is a good fit if you:

  • Run a business where a lot of the day is documents, email, phone calls, or data entry.
  • Have tried AI tools ad hoc and want a plan instead of experiments.
  • Need an AI usage policy for your staff before someone pastes a client file into a chatbot.
  • Have a vendor pitch on your desk and want a technical opinion before you sign.

This is not a good fit if you:

  • Want someone to "do AI" without changing any existing process.
  • Need an answer this week. From first interview to report is usually two to three weeks.
  • Are looking for a cheaper ChatGPT subscription. Ask the AI Advisor instead, it's free.

AI Audit

  • AI-capable process identification
  • Team member interviews
  • Specific AI tool recommendations
  • Cost and effort estimate for each recommendation
  • AI policy questionnaire
  • Organizational AI policy
  • Written report within a week of the last interview
  • Remote or on-site 1

Canadian business? The build that follows an audit may qualify for BDC LIFT financing or an NRC IRAP contribution, both of which favour Canadian builders.

How it works

1. Free Pre-Audit

A ten-minute questionnaire about your business and what you're hoping AI can do. If an audit isn't the right next step, I'll say so and suggest what is.

2. Interviews

Thirty to sixty minutes each with the people who do the work, remote or on-site. I'm looking for the tasks everyone complains about and nobody has written down.

3. The report

Delivered within a week of the last interview. Three sections: Observations, Opportunity Identification with the best bets ranked first, and Recommendations detailed enough to act on.

4. Build it, or don't

If something is worth building, I can build it, and there's no hand-off to a third party. If nothing is, the report says so and you've spent $5,000 instead of $50,000 finding out.

Why me, and not another AI consultant?

Most AI consultants have used AI tools. Fewer have integrated them. Very few have paid the API bills for a product with real users and watched what breaks.

I've been building with the OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google APIs since the day each one was released. The portfolio is working software I wrote myself. So when I say a task will cost you three cents a document or that a vendor's demo won't survive contact with your data, it's because I've measured it.

And you get me. Not a firm, not a slide deck, not a junior consultant learning on your project.

Not ready for an audit?

Start with an hour. Bring your questions, your vendor pitches, and the process that annoys you most, and you'll leave with straight answers to things like:

  • What does AI do well, and what does it struggle with?
  • Which models, tools, and APIs are best for a particular task?
  • How much will it actually cost to run?
  • What about privacy, legal, or regulatory concerns?

If it turns into an audit later, great. If an hour was all you needed, that's fine too.

Decades of Experience

I founded Syllogistic Software in 2003 and have spent my entire career building software and managing software projects.

I have a Bachelor of Mathematics in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, a business degree, and a Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification. That combination is what lets me bridge the gap between technical considerations and business fundamentals.

Since 2022, most of my time has gone into building AI-powered software, so the advice you get is grounded in what actually works, not in vendor marketing.
